What Actually Happens When You Work With Me

Most people considering a full-service designer aren’t unsure about wanting good design. They’re unsure what actually happens once they say yes. Here’s the real process, stage by stage.

Benjo Interior Design Process

Discovery call

We start with a short conversation. Not a pitch. A real talk about your space, what’s not working, and whether we’re a fit for each other.

On-site consultation

I come to your home and walk it with you. We talk through how you actually live there, not just how you want it to look. This is where I start forming a real point of view on your space, not a mood board.

Exploratory phase

Before any design work begins, we get clear on your real scope and your real budget. I look at what’s structurally involved and bring in contractor input where construction is part of the picture. This step exists so you’re never surprised by a number later. You’ll know what you’re actually working with before you commit to anything.

Design direction

I come back with an actual point of view: the big moves, the materials, the layout. Not a stack of options for you to sort through. A direction. You react to it, and we refine it together until it feels right.

Full design development

Everything gets specified: finishes, fixtures, furnishings, all within the budget we agreed on. You see a complete picture, not scattered pieces you have to imagine fitting together.

Final presentation and approval

Everything is itemized and priced. You review it, approve it, sign off. Nothing gets ordered before this happens. That’s what protects you from surprises mid-project.

You get weekly updates through every active stage, so you always know where things stand. No wondering, no chasing me for status.

Procurement and coordination

Orders go out. I coordinate with your contractor and vendors so everything arrives and comes together the way it was designed.

Install and final walkthrough

Then the day you’ve been waiting for: you walk through a finished home, room by room, and it actually feels like yours. Not a showroom. Not someone else’s version of good taste. Yours, done right, ready to live in.

That’s the whole point of all of it: a home that finally matches the life you’re already living. If that’s what you’ve been circling for a while, the discovery call is the easiest way to find out if we’re the right fit.
